Neoplanta Plone Sprint report

The event took place from 21 till 27 November 2010 in a Serbian town of Novi Sad. This is also where the sprint's name came from: Novi Sad latinized is Neoplanta. It was truly a week of traditional Balkan food and drinks with great company - and lots of work done. Scroll down for some photos!

MESS - Mandarine Event Scheduling System

One part of the sprint focused on our event management system, in use at this site (eestec.net). We had many discussions on optimizing and controlling internal processes with workflows. After all workflow diagrams were drawn and agreed upon, we went on to implement them. Luckily we use collective.wtf to make this job less painful.

SubSkins demo

Joni Orponen gave a demo of the medialog.subskins product for Plone. This product enables end-users to customize the look&feel of their site with only a few clicks. This product was later used by to enable a single non-tehnical person to create the ifiso.org website.

 

LDAP and Tiles

We were lucky to have other Plonistas join the sprint also! They were helping us when we got stuck and gave us valuable insights into more advanced aspects of Plone and related technologies.

Guys from the BlueDynamics Alliance were working on their two new products for the wider Python community: tiles and an LDAP convenience library. They gave us a high-level overview of how these two products work together and what they hope to achieve.
