OpenDAY report

OpenDAY

One of the most important events of the Athens EESTEC Congress 2010 was the OpenDay, which took place in the conference hall of the central high class Athens’ TITANIA HOTEL on the 23rd of March. This was the second year the OpenDay was organized along with the EESTEC Congress with an aim to enable students to establish contacts with representatives of companies or other sponsors and foreign universities.

In this year’s OpenDay participated 7 major sponsor companies, including Piraeus Bank, ABB, PWC and Schneider Electric that made company presentations at the beginning of the day. Each company was provided with its own space at the exposition that followed and got the opportunity to present itself in a more “student-friendly” way.

Also participating in this joint venture, the universities of Aalborg and Bologna presented their graduate programs, internships and research projects through presentations and print-outs. Apart from their academic programs, representatives of the universities also informed students about the social life and traditions of their universities, a really unique opportunity for those in search of graduate programs.

In addition, representatives from the National Agency for Youth were present giving a rare chance to the participants to get in touch with the Youth in Action programs and learn how they can benefit from them. Moreover, participants of the 24th EESTEC Congress had their part in the OpenDay event at the LC fair during which they presented their universities and local committees of EESTEC.

OpenDAY

During the Open Day were also held a session in Greek about “Interview Skills” and an open panel discussion entitled “From University’s Nest to the Real World” regarding the relationship between universities and companies, a vital matter for Greece and the whole of Europe as well, where representatives from companies and university professors gave their insight on the matter.

In general, the OpenDay 2010 with over 250 participants and visitors was considered a great success, was praised by all the sponsor companies and opened the way for this institution to become a tradition for EESTEC for the years to come.
